Honda lays down Have A Go challenge at BTCC
As part of its Gold sponsorship of WorldSkills London 2011, Honda (UK) and the Honda Racing Team from the 2011 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship will, along with other sponsors and partners to WorldSkills London 2011, be laying down a challenge to spectators and the wider BTCC fraternity to Have A Go at a variety of activities which have their roots in vocational skills. The activities, which showcase the skills required in engineering, beauty therapy, robotics and hospitality, will be available for everyone to try at every BTCC race meeting this coming season.
Have A Go is a national campaign created by WorldSkills London 2011 and sets out to provide one million opportunities for people across the UK to try a new skill in a fun and engaging way as part of its mission to change perceptions of vocational skills and training.
“Bringing the WorldSkills London 2011 Have A Go challenges to BTCC is a perfect combination – the two things complement each other very well,” says Sarah Mayo, Partnerships Manager at Honda (UK). “When you look further than the black stuff at a racing circuit and start to think about how many skills are involved in putting on a weekend’s racing you end up with quite a few. Engineering, hospitality, event management, landscaping, beauty therapy, graphic design – the list goes on. We really hope that many people will be encouraged to come and Have A Go over the course of the race weekend – it should be a lot of fun!”
Honda/Snap-on: Have A Go at... Pit Stop Challenge
Snap-on is a leading global innovator, manufacturer and marketer of tools, diagnostics, equipment, software and service solutions for professional users. The Honda/Snap-on, Pit Stop Challenge is a timed activity that will test the reflexes and concentration of the Have A Go-ers as they get to grips with a cordless impact gun to fasten the wheel nuts & finish off with a torque wrench to check that the correct setting has been achieved on a double wheel jig - not as easy as it first appears.
The challenge embraces the very spirit of WorldSkills London 2011 Have A Go campaign by providing a bite-size, hands-on and competitive skills experience but also demonstrates the types of skills that are required to perform an everyday task in an automotive workplace or perform under pressure as part of a team within a racing environment.
