The Covent Garden Real Food Market, London’s favourite stop off for fresh produce and lunch time treats in the West End, returns to the East Piazza every Thursday from 14th April 2011.

The Covent Garden Real Food Market is now in its fifth year and run by former Borough Market Manager, Chris Denning.  Raising the bar for fresh produce markets in the West End, the Real Food Market focuses on supplying Londoners with food from artisanal traders across the UK, providing affordable meat, vegetables and other staples making the market a valuable resource for those who live, work and visit the area.

The award-winning district recently received the accolade of ‘London’s Best Gastronomic Experience’ as voted by the Visit London People’s Choice Award and the return of the market will be welcomed by both foodies and locals alike.

This year, popular established traders Crumbs & Doilies, The Dessert Deli and The Polish Bakery will be joined by exciting new additions including:

• Porters, selling gourmet pies and puddings
• Covent Garden tenant Andronicas, selling fresh coffee and coffee beans
• Rennet & Press, selling organic beef and "Stichelton" organic raw milk stilton cheese
• The Sausage Sage, selling a variety of quality sausages

Covent Garden is also upping its foodie credentials with former tenants including West Cornwall Pasty Company and Ponti’s making way for arrivals such as Parisian patisserie Laduree’s first UK stand-alone tea salon to the Market Building next month, as well as New York favourite Balthazar’s only destination outside of Manhattan, opening in the historic Flower Cellars building this winter. Both tenants, combined with the return of the Covent Garden Real Food Market, offer Londoners and visitors to the capital a fantastic food offering making Covent Garden one of the most exciting retail and dining destinations in the West End.

Covent Garden London brand director Bev Churchill commented,

“The Real Food Market is returning to the Piazza this week for the fifth year, continuing Covent Garden’s rich heritage as the original ‘Larder of London.’ We are committed to making Covent Garden a destination for foodies and the market plays a key role this.”

The Real Food Market is another step forward for Covent Garden’s positioning as one of the most shoppable neighbourhoods in London, with the Market Building offering the best in independent and specialty food and retail brands, King Street playing home to contemporary luxury, whilst James Street and Long Acre offer the best of high street shopping.

A number of exciting attractions will be introduced to The Real Food Market throughout the year; further details will follow in due course.
