Civic dignitaries have been given an early preview of new David Wilson Homes at Newport which are due to open to the public this weekend.

The five star housebuilder says interest is already high in this development which is being built in partnership between David Wilson Homes, the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) and SEEDA.

The development was officially opened by Councillor Ian Stephens, Chairman of the Isle of Wight Council and guest speakers also included Kevin Bourner, head of area for the HCA and Christine Turner from Spectrum Housing Group.

David Wilson Homes’ managing director Ian Wallace hosted the delegation of VIPs to the development and said it had been the perfect opportunity to showcase these new homes which will set a new benchmark in Newport.

“We’re delighted to be launching these new homes, all of which will be built to meet Level 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes, Lifetime Homes and Building for Life (Gold Standard),’’ said Mr Wallace.

He said that these homes will be more efficient than those built to the 2006 Building Regulations standards, benefiting all of those involved in the construction and residents.

All homes at Victoria Walk will be ‘Lifetime Homes’ which are normal homes but incorporate certain design criteria. Each feature adds to the comfort and convenience of the home and supports the changing needs to individuals and families throughout their lives. The homes are designed specifically to be flexible and adaptable, so for example will be an area for a lift to be installed and the ground floor could be adapted to live in, if necessary.

In addition, David Wilson Homes is proud that Victoria Walk will be constructed using a variety of materials from the Island, performed by either locals as part of its dedicated training Academy or recruited as a local supplier to the leading housebuilder.

Kevin Bourner, head of area at the HCA, said: "The partnership between the local community, the HCA, SEEDA, Isle of Wight Council and David Wilson Homes has laid the foundations for the creation of this modern, sustainable development,’’ he said. “The investment in Victoria Walk is bearing substantial rewards for the Isle of Wight community and economy, bringing new and affordable housing, more jobs and opportunities for training to the island."

Once complete Victoria Walk will offer one, two, three and four bedroom homes offering something to suit every buyer from first time buyers and couples to growing and established families.

David Wilson Homes’ sales director Mark Docherty said: “We’re delighted to be creating another development on the Island and are committed to satisfying the housing need in the East Cowes area.

“Victoria Walk will offer beautiful, spacious, modern living for every buyer providing sought after homes in a great location.

“Our Isle of Wight developments are always extremely popular and we’ve already received a lot of interest in Victoria Walk ahead of the official launch.”

Location is also set to be key to the success of Victoria Walk. The nearby yachting town of Cowes offers a wide variety of amenities including schools, shops, pubs and restaurants. Near to the River Medina and a local mooring site, Victoria Walk lies on the eastern edge of Cowes and offers the perfect retreat for yachting enthusiasts. There is easy access to the rest of the island and to the mainland via the excellent ferry links.
