Mazda Digital Service Record stops the clocks turning back

With fresh evidence from HPI, the vehicle information experts, revealing that up to 1-in-17 cars undergoing an MOT have had their mileage altered – or ‘clocked’ – Mazda’s DSR system provides a valuable, independent and accurate reference mechanism through servicing records.

Mazda’s Digital Service Record (DSR) is a modern, state-of-the-art way to handle the recording of servicing information, providing easier access to service information and helping cut down on the practice of clocking cars.  The internet-based DSR programme replaces conventional and potentially vulnerable maintenance booklets, meaning owners benefit from having centralised, secure and transparent records of their cars’ service histories.

Car clocking can be dangerous as it puts not only drivers and passengers, but also other road users at risk.  A reduced mileage does not give a true impression of the wear and tear of the car, and, if the mileage stated on the odometer can not be verified, car dealers and drivers can be vulnerable from a legal point of view, particularly if making an insurance claim.

“Mazda’s DSR is first and foremost a quick, efficient and convenient service record system for Mazda’s customers, providing easier access to service history and demonstrating regular servicing and maintenance,” commented Steve Jelliss, Aftersales Director, Mazda Motors UK.  “Mazda’s residual values, which are already among the best in class, are further reinforced by a secure and authoritative service record.

“The online system facilitates recording every scheduled service, extended service and vehicle body inspection, meaning that every Mazda’s history can be electronically documented.  This not only helps combat the illegal practice of clocking cars, but also supports Mazda dealers and other servicers in doing all they can to keep the car running at its best,” added Jelliss.

Mazda’s DSR extends beyond the initial warranty period and is made available to official Mazda service centres and registered independent repairers – meaning a Mazda’s service and maintenance history is recorded and accessible throughout the course of its life.
