Iceland Express calls all culture vultures to the city of art

18th April 2011 Print

Experience a unique atmosphere in the colourful city during Iceland‘s biggest celebration of theatre, dance, music, literature and visual arts at the annual Reykjavik Arts Festival (20 May – 5 June).

Iceland’s low-fare airline, Iceland Express is a main sponsor of the event and with flights from £89 one-way including taxes, travellers have the chance to experience the cultural celebration which harks back to 1970. The airline flies daily from London Gatwick to Reykjavik and is commencing flights from Edinburgh to Reykjavik from June this year.

Several events will be held in the new and long-awaited Harpa Concert Hall which is situated in the old harbour between Reykjavik city centre and the North Atlantic, the design of the new Harpa is influenced by Iceland‘s exceptionally dramatic nature and the gleaming sculpture reflects both sky and harbour, as well as the vibrant city life.

This year performing arts will take centre stage during the 17-day celebration and some of the event highlights include a Jonas Kaufmann concert with Iceland Symphony Orchestra  and a magnetic live performance from Olof Arnalds, Iceland’s rising star, who will be joined by acclaimed composer and musician Skuli Sverrisson. There will also be outdoor performances and activities to entertain all art lovers.
