‘The Hotel’ becomes an instant hit for Channel 4

The new fly-on-the-wall documentary series about The Damson Dene Hotel, which launched last night, has become an instant hit after almost all of the UK’s national newspapers picked it out as one to watch over the weekend.
The show reached a record 2.3 million viewers for its first episode, making it the most watched TV show on Channel 4 all week.
Jonathan Denby, owner of the Damson Dene is delighted by the outcome, “We could not have asked for a better reception to the first show. There has been a huge amount of anticipation building over the weeks and we’ve seen a great response from both the public and the media. Indeed our following on Twitter (@damsondene) has doubled since the show aired last night.
“Not only is this great news for the hotel but also for theLake District. It’s going to benefit more than just our business if the show drives people to booking a holiday with us this summer.
He continues: “This morning we’ve had a number of enquiries for bookings and weddings along with a constant stream of job enquiries. In these early stages it appears that ‘The Hotel’ is having the desired effect.”
In response to the early positivity about the documentary, the Damson Dene starts ‘Carvery with the Cast’ on Easter Sunday. This weekly special will allow anyone to enjoy a three course Sunday lunch for just £15.95 per person, all served up by the show’s favourite characters. Manager Wayne, waiter Amos and chef Kirk will all be there and it’s anticipated that these regular Sunday lunches will become a ‘must do’ activity for both locals and visitors to the Lake District this summer. Bookings are essential for anyone who wants to guarantee a space.
The second episode of ‘The Hotel’ will air on Easter Sunday at 9pm featuring the wedding of Tom and Susanna – perhaps Kate and William will be able to take some tips!
