Race to the Indianapolis 500

The deadline for entries has passed and fans are now waiting in anticipation for the final list of drivers who will take to the track for the 100th year of the Indianapolis 500.
The Indy 500 - dubbed the ‘Greatest Spectacle of Racing’ for its prestige, long history and monumental turnout every year - will be celebrating its Centennial in 2011. Known as the world’s greatest single day sporting event, attracting around 400,000 spectators, the Indianapolis 500 is a true highlight of the racing season.
The race has a keen celebrity following, with Mark Wahlberg, Russell Crowe and Morgan Freeman flocking to the track to see the 33 participants complete the legendary 200 laps of Indianapolis’ iconic Brickyard.
Spectators at this year’s event will also catch sight of the business icon Donald J. Trump who will lead the drivers to the starting point whilst being behind the wheel of the 2011 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible Pace Car.
All eyes will be on 2010 Indy500 winner British driver Dario Frachetti to see if he can secure another British win for the historical race on 29th May. Other Britons competing include, winner of the 2006 Indy Lights title, Jay Howard who will be a member of Sam Schmidt’s team.
Spectators to the Indy 500 will also be treated to Team Hot Wheels Attempt at World Record-Breaking Distance Jump of 302 feet in a four-wheeled vehicle. Fans all around the world will watch in awe as a masked mystery driver from Team Hot Wheels attempts the outrageous -- speeding down a 90 ft. ramp, suspended on an enormous 10-story high door (100 feet tall) and soaring across the infield of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
