Athlete Dan Bentley received all the help he needed to secure his ideal property at Taylor Wimpey’s The Mews at White Street development of flats for sale in Dunmow, Essex.

When Paralympian Dan Bentley began searching the Essex property market for his first home, he knew it would take a very special place to suit his needs.

The 26-year-old was keen to enjoy greater independence, yet wanted to remain close to his family and friends – and he discovered the home that ticked all the right boxes at Taylor Wimpey’s The Mews at White Street development of property for sale in Dunmow, just a short distance away from his loved ones.

Graphic design graduate Dan chose his favourite plot from the choice of two-bedroom apartments for sale in Dunmow at the development – and because he bought off-plan, Taylor Wimpey was able to arrange for his new home to be specially adapted for his needs while it was being built.

Dan explains: “I would like to very much thank all the staff at Taylor Wimpey for all their help in making this move happen for me. They have been so accommodating to my needs, which are very specific, and without their help I don't think it would have been possible.

“Nikki, the sales executive, and Rob, the site manager, have been really helpful. I needed some adaptations throughout, some of which have meant them going back to the drawing board and changing things around, which they have been able to do. I met with the whole team to discuss my needs and it is great the way it is all coming together.”

Dan, who has cerebral palsy, was a gold medal winner in Beijing 2008 in the team Boccia – a Paralympic sport similar to bowls and played by wheelchair athletes.

He has an individual world ranking in BC2 (a class of Boccia) of 14 and is training for London 2012, so it was important to him that his new home was in a convenient location for his busy training schedule. With easy access to major roads, The Mews enjoys the perfect position for travel.

Dan added: “I chose the Mews as it was in Dunmow, close to everyone I know, and to get more independence for myself.

“It is ideal for everything I do as it's located in the centre of Dunmow and near major road links. I drive to training and this is an ideal base. I currently train for the Paralympics 12 hours a week including Boccia, gym work and swimming and have many weekend training camps which can be as far as Sheffield.”

Dan graduated from Portsmouth University last July with a degree in graphic design and is considering working from home once he’s moved into his new place, which is due to be ready this summer.

He said: “I am looking forward to when the apartment is finished and I can move in. I often drive past to have a look at how it is coming on and am being kept up to date on all aspects of the build from the staff there.”

Great Dunmow town is nestled in the heart of beautiful rural Essex and is home to a wide selection of wonderful shops and speciality stores, pubs, restaurants, cafés and bars. It also boasts its own leisure centre and swimming pool, parks and children’s play areas, tennis courts, bowling greens, riverside walks and countless clubs and societies.

The Mews at White Street is just six miles from Stansted Airport, while the M11 is only seven miles from the development, putting central London and Cambridge within easy commuting distance.

The Mews Sales Centre is located off White Street, Great Dunmow, and open Thursday to Monday from 10am to 5.30pm.
