Glamping with a difference in Latin America

Glamping in Latin America

Latin America is not synonymous with ‘glamping’, however the under-canvas options offer access to some of the most remote and unique parts of the continent.

From camping on the beaches of Baja California to the domes shadowed by the Torres de Paine granite towers, Journey Latin America, this week introduces the best ‘glamping’ opportunities in Latin America. In the majority of cases these camps also offer clients a chance to not only get up close and personal with the elements and some of the most spectacular scenery imaginable, but also the opportunity to go kayaking, trekking in the Andes and take jungle walks.

Starting in Mexico, the 7 night Espiritu Santo Sea Kayaking trip departs from La Paz in Baja California and explores the deserted bays and coves by day camping on the beaches by night. In season you can even whale watch as you paddle along. This trip costs from £859 per person based on two sharing. This price includes accommodation, transfers, full board and excursions with an English speaking guide.  This trip can also be arranged as part of a tailor-made itinerary such as our Canyons and Kayaks Family Holiday.

The luxurious Chaa Creek Lodge, located within the beautiful Mountain Pine Forest Reserve of Western Belize, also has the option of staying at the Macal River camp set high on the river's lush banks, close to the ancient Maya ruins of Tipu and Xunantunich. This is perfect for people looking for genuine jungle experience with the added bonus of the luxury facilities back at the main lodge. A four night stay at Chaa Creeks’s Macal River Camp cost from £196 per person based on two sharing. This price includes bed and breakfast. A stay at Chaa Creek can also be arranged as part of a tailor-made itinerary such as our Jungle and Cayes of Belize.

The unique and relatively untouched Osa peninsula, Costa Rica is home to La Leona Tent Camp. With tent-cabins on the beach front or set high up in the rainforest, one can fully immerse oneself with nature. It’s remote location (a 45 minute walk along a palm fringed beach is the only access to the lodge) wildlife spotting opportunities are incredible either from the comfort of your veranda or within the Corcovado National park a little further along the beach. A four night stay at La Leona tent Camp cost from £811 per person based on two sharing. This price includes accommodation, transfers, full board, excursions with an English speaking guide and domestic flights from San José. A stay on the Osa peninsula can also be arranged as part of a tailor-made itinerary such as our Coast and Cloudforest holiday.

The Galapagos Islands, better known for their cruises are now opening up to more land based alternatives that offer people more active holidays and a completely new perspective of the islands. The Galapagos Safari camp is modelled on the African safari camps, where guests enjoy total comfort under canvas while experiencing nature in its purest form. A four night stay at the Galapagos Safari Camp cost from £886 per person based on two sharing. This price includes bed and breakfast. A stay at the Galapagos Safari camp can also be arranged as part of a tailor-made itinerary such as our Island-based Galapagos Family Adventure.

Finally at the southern tip of the continent, the Torres del Paine National Park perhaps lends itself best you glamping. The Ecocamp is perhaps the best in terms of location, near the twin towers or ‘torres’ which give the park its name and are a fantastic base to explore the park. A four night stay at the Ecocamp cost from £1473 per person based on two sharing. This price includes accommodation, transfers, full board and a program of excursions with an English speaking guide.  A stay at the Ecocamp can also be arranged as part of a tailor-made itinerary such as our Passage to Patagonia Holiday.
