Desert Island Books at Barts

6th May 2011 Print

Cult speakeasy Barts is proud to announce the launch of the Barts Book Club kicking off on Wednesday 11th May, then meeting once a month thereafter.

As it's the inaugural session it will have the theme of 'Desert Island Books', where everyone brings their favourite book of all time and explains in a few minutes why that is their most well thumbed and prized book. Whoever describes their book the most eloquently and in truest literary vein, wins a pot of Barts tea and a Waterstones voucher.

Book clubbers can then enjoy high brow, academic discussions with their fellow bookworms or alternatively put their reading material to one side and enjoy cocktails and dissipation in the style of the original book club, The Bloomsbury Set. Please do let us know if you'd like to attend.

Barts is a quirky 'speak easy' style bar on prestigious Sloane Avenue in the heart of Chelsea. It was voted the 21st best bar in the UK in the Independent newspaper’s recent Best 50 Bars supplement. It is the brainchild of Duncan Stirling and Charlie Gilkes, the young duo who also recently opened the highly successful 80’s themed nightclub, Maggie’s. It is well loved for its great and innovative cocktails and fancy dress box.
