La Manga Club stars in Spanish cricket festival
Budding cricket stars of the future will flock to the five-star La Manga Club resort next weekend as part of a national festival organised by Cricket Espana.
Following a visit to the world-class sports resort last year, which included two matches against the Spanish national side, the MCC (Marylebone Cricket Club), in collaboration with the ICC (International Cricket Council), awarded Cricket Espana funding for a series of events to take place on Sunday, May 15, the biggest of which will be at La Manga Club.
Up to 200 children are expected to benefit from expert tuition in batting, bowling and fielding techniques as well as enjoying a variety of tournaments and cricket competitions.
The recent addition of two regulation club turf pitches and four full-length nets further cemented La Manga Club’s standing as the ‘home of cricket in Spain’.
County and international sides use the resort regularly as a warm-weather training base with the outstanding cricket facilities being just part of the overall attraction of Europe’s number one sports and leisure resort.
The Mediterranean climate makes it possible to train outdoors in the sunshine all year round and La Manga Club also runs a series of popular junior cricket academies run by Cricket Espana during school holidays.
