Shakespeare in the Cloisters Much Ado About Nothing

Beaulieu Abbey & Cloisters

The atmospheric ruins of historic Beaulieu Abbey provide a dramatic setting for Castle Theatre Company’s inspired interpretation of the classic Shakespeare play, Much Ado About Nothing. Two open-air performances will take place on 12th and 13th July in the ancient grounds of the Abbey, a beautiful summer backdrop to a very British comic war of the wits.

Much Ado About Nothing combines the tragicomic story of the courtship of Hero and Claudio with the witty sparring of Beatrice and Benedick. The latter pair are tricked into acknowledging that their open dislike of each other is in fact masking the true love they hold. Confusion ensues as wicked Don John stages a betrayal of loyal Hero to Claudio leading to wedding day accusations. In a comedy packed with betrayal, trickery, and confusion from all parties, Much Ado About Nothing will be a production not to be missed!

Castle Theatre Company offers some of the best student drama in the UK, and this year celebrates its 33rd Summer Shakespeare Tour of castles and manor houses in Britain.

Beaulieu’s gardens are open from 6pm for picnics, and the performances will commence at 7pm. An added bonus for theatre-goers is the opportunity to view an exhibition of impressive sculptures by the Surrey Sculpture Society, both in the Abbey precincts and surrounding Beaulieu grounds and gardens.  A copy of the Sculpture Trail can be downloaded from beaulieu.co.uk/events

In the event of wet weather, the performance will be moved under cover.

Tickets are priced at £12 for adults and £10 for under-18s and concessions, with parking in the Beaulieu attraction arena. Tickets can be purchased in advance online at beaulieushop.co.uk.
