St Lucia

The Jalousie Plantation, Sugar Beach tucked between St Lucia’s World Heritage-listed Pitons is a perfect year-round destination but there are a host of reasons why it's a particularly great place to visit in the summer months…read on for our top ten!

1. The most obvious attraction is that the cost of airfares generally goes down from the end of March with many carriers running special deals. Direct flights operate from London on British Airways and Virgin Atlantic, and from the US on American Airlines, Delta and Jet Blue.

2. For a real summer deal, Jalousie is offering free nights on stays of seven nights or more. Stay for 7 nights, pay for 6; stay for 14 nights, pay for 12. Guests will also enjoy complimentary breakfast and dinner daily for two adults (excluding drinks). Room rates start at US$270 per night for a new Luxury Sugar Mill Room. (Rates exclude 18% tax and service charge). Valid for travel up to October 31, 2011.

3. There are a number of activities in the late spring/summer months including the famous Carnival which takes place July 18 and 19. Visitors can join a carnival band, dance down the streets of Castries and enjoy Calypso and Soca music competitions in the run up to the colourful street parade.

4. From March to August, guests can enjoy Turtle Watching as during these months the giant leatherback turtles heave their bodies up onto the remote beaches on the island’s east coast to lay their eggs... this is something you won't see any other time of the year! Jalousie also sees turtles on its own white sand beach this time of year. There is already one turtle nest at the Bayside Bar.

5. The seas surrounding the island are much calmer in the summer which makes sailing day trips far more enjoyable for the uninitiated. Jalousie organises a range of boat-based excursions, from sunset cruising to full day sailing adventures.

6. As the spring tradewinds diminish, so to do the ocean up-swells making underwater visibility crystal clear. The summer months are among the best for scuba diving and with a PADI dive centre right on the shores of the resort’s white sand beach, The Jalousie Plantation is perfectly poised to make the most of these ideal conditions. The Jalousie Plantation offers a complimentary dive experience for every guest. Experienced divers can enjoy a complimentary beach dive per day, while new-comers to the sport can enjoy one complimentary try-dive per stay (both excluding wet suit hire and marine park fees).

7.  With school being out this is the perfect time for a family holiday. Jalousie has a great Children’s Learning Centre and plenty of fun-filled family activities to keep every member entertained. Younger visitors can learn all about the nearby volcano and the underwater wonders of Anse des Pitons with a range of educational but entertaining activities and excursions.

8. It’s always a great season to try The Jalousie Plantation’s world class Rainforest Spa with its treehouse treatment cabanas and authentic temascal—Amerindian steam room. The Spa Breakaway Package provides the perfect introduction to the Rainforest Spa for those seeking a relaxing, yet affordable break. Stay for three nights in any room category and the fourth night is free. Add in a complimentary Rainforest Spa signature Bamboo massage, a manicure or pedicure per booking, complimentary daily full breakfast for two adults, and you have the perfect Spa Break Away. Rates start at just US$270 per night (excluding 18% tax and service charge) for a newly renovated Luxury Sugar Mill Room. Valid for travel through October 31, 2011.

9. All of the facilities at Jalousie, including the PADI Dive Centre, remain open year-round. It’s a great time to climb the Gros Piton or to try out one of the all-natural treatments in the Rainforest Spa. The Sulphur Seduction, which involves a trip to the nearby sulphur springs, a liberal slathering in black volcanic mud, and a volcano-warmed shower in a natural waterfall, is a year-round favourite.

10. During the summer months, temperatures and humidity are higher, but you get beautiful clear skies and it's great for star gazers with less haze masking the night skies. Occasional sharp downpours cool the air and are generally followed by bright sunshine and blue skies.
