Dental implants are now cheaper in the UK than abroad

31st May 2011 Print

Recently, a UK cosmetic dentistry provider - Dentalcare Plus – took the initiative to lower their prices in order to directly compete with the total cost of travelling and receiving dental implant treatment abroad. Dentalcare Plus has two clinics in the south of the UK – in Cornwall and the Near London – with a further clinic opening soon in the Bristol area to help cater for a significant increase in their client base.

For many years dental clinics in Hungary, Poland, Bulgaria and Thailand have been able to offer dental implants to UK at a far lower cost than it was possible to receive in the Britain. This together with the rise of discount airlines and a strong pound made it more cost-effective for British citizens to partake in dental tourism.

Initially it may seem an attractive option to travel abroad to take advantage of the lower price of dental surgical procedures. However, when the cost of flights, accommodation, meals and the extra time off work is taken into account the financial savings which could have previously been made are no longer possible due to the revolutionary new price structure offered by one of the leading cosmetic dentistry organisations in the UK, Dentalcare Plus.

Furthermore, many prospective implant patients will not be aware of other issues which can raise the cost of implant surgery abroad.  Most implant procedures will require three separate visits to the dental practice, which of course means three outbound and return flights. Additionally, many prospective patients do not realise that it is not advisable to travel immediately after surgery, with most airlines requiring at least three days to have passed before allowing a patient who has just had implants surgery to fly. This is due to the increased risk of bleeding caused by the low air pressure in the cabin of a jet travelling at around 35,000 feet.

Many prospective dental patients are also concerned regarding the safety aspects of travelling abroad to receive dental treatments. It is far from easy to verify the standard and competence of dental surgeons overseas, with Dentalcare Plus and their UK qualified dentists, peace of mind can be found by confirmation from the GDC (General Dental Council) along with other organisations that the dental practitioners are affiliated with.

The level aftercare offered at UK based clinics is another significant benefit of receiving treatment in Britain.  After-care and the general continuity of treatment has for a long time been a major issue with dental implant surgery in foreign countries. Whilst the vast majority of dental clinics abroad are willing to deal with complications which may occur and carry out remedial work, in many cases it is not cost effective or practical to book flights and a hotel room in order to travel back to the clinic where the treatment was originally carried out.
