Wheely good cycling deals in the Scottish Highlands

With up to twenty hours of daylight in the mid-summer and routes of varied difficulty, Scotland offers cyclists a range of relaxed and challenging rides – routes for cycling softies to those who prefer the more arduous challenge of cycling from Lands End to John o’Groats.

With a prime position overlooking the banks of Loch Ness at the heart of the Scottish Highlands and located on the main drag of the LEJoG cycling challenge route, The Lovat Loch Ness in Fort Augustus has designed a fantastic accommodation offer for all cycling enthusiasts undertaking the gruelling LEJoG challenge.

The Lovat, an independent eco-conscious hotel well-known for its green credentials, already offers a discount to guests who travel to the hotel by bike or by public transport or who have walked there on foot.  The hotel is now offering End to End cyclists the opportunity to treat themselves to some comfort en route upgrading them from a standard double studio bedroom to a Deluxe room with bath whenever possible.

The Lovat restaurant is also cognisant of the fact that cycling creates a huge appetite and that cyclists never feel guilty about tucking into huge Scottish breakfasts or Munro-sized portions of pasta or other carb-filled dishes.  The hotel’s menu reflects the need for cyclists to load up with slow-burn carbohydrates, a little protein and fluids at the start of the day, and then refuel and repair muscles at the end of the day with a suitably carbohydrate-rich meal.

The hotel’s beauty therapist is a particularly welcome sight for weary cyclists who choose to book themselves in for a therapeutic massage to help their muscles on the road to recovery for the next exhausting leg the following day.

Emphasising their support for endurance cycling, The Lovat has taken on the role of team sponsor for a group of local fitness enthusiasts from Inverness. The Inverness Spinners will be cycling the 1000 mile route from south to north in ten days in July this year, raising money for Scottish and local charities and, of course, enjoying the luxuries of comfort, food and massage at the hotel on the second last night of their challenge.

Summer rates start from £100 per room and the hotel offers late deals from £37.50pppn.
