Directors at Taylor Wimpey East Anglia, the leading housebuilder behind a number of developments of property for sale in East Anglia, have tackled a tough 30km trek in aid of local good causes.

A challenging trek in the Suffolk countryside has seen an intrepid team of Taylor Wimpey employees raise thousands of pounds for four good causes.

The team of 10 from the leading housebuilder, which is currently constructing developments of new homes in Norfolk, houses for sale in Suffolk, property for sale in Cambridgeshire and property to buy in Essex, completed a gruelling 30km (19-mile) route from their headquarters in Bury St Edmunds to Needham Market for charity on Saturday 28th May.

Taylor Wimpey East Anglia Managing Director Bryn Maidman, Commercial Director Barry Dean, Financial Director Hayden Dolby, Technical Director Mark Edmonds, Sales and Marketing Director Stacy Dornan and Production Director John Baldock are raising sponsorship through kind friends, family, Taylor Wimpey colleagues, subcontractors and suppliers.

The proceeds will help construct and equip a nursery school in Kakooko, Uganda, and boost the Beans Means Brains project which provides school dinners for Ugandan pupils.

Not content with that, the team have also decided to gift £1,000 to Abbotts Green Primary School in Bury St Edmunds for new IT equipment and £1,000 to Needham Market Middle School’s chosen charity, Possibilities, which aims to improve the lives of impoverished Ugandan children.

Mark Edmonds says: “The walk started from Abbotts Green Primary School, which is close to our hearts as Taylor Wimpey provided the land it occupies and part-funded its construction.

“We finished a tough day of hiking at the former Unilever factory in Needham Market’s High Street – a site we are planning to regenerate once details have been agreed with the local authorities. Needham Market Middle School is a stone’s throw from the site, so we felt it was appropriate to boost its fundraising total with a sizeable donation.

“The thought of raising so much money for causes on our doorstep and also many miles away in Uganda was a fantastic motivation to keep us all going during the walk, as the blisters, aches and pains kicked in.

“We would all like to express our sincere thanks to everyone who has been so generous in sponsoring us, and encourage those who would still like to make a donation to do so via our online web page at everyclick.com/TWEADirectorsChallenge2011.”

Taylor Wimpey East Anglia currently has 16 developments of new homes across Cambridgeshire, Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk.
