easyJet’s new Aberdeen to Gatwick route takes off

10th June 2011 Print

easyJet has launched the first flight on its new route from Aberdeen to Gatwick.

easyJet is now operating a daily flight to London Gatwick, with fares starting from £27.99 (one way including taxes).

Hugh Aitken, easyJet’s commercial manager for Scotland, said: “We are excited to launch our first flight on this new key route which will allow us to carry an extra 100,000 passengers a year to London, demonstrating our commitment to Aberdeen.

“We listened to our passengers and could see that there was demand for an affordable daily service to Gatwick.

“easyJet is the largest airline based at Gatwick, and this new route not only links both business and leisure passengers from Aberdeen to London, but also opens up the many other easyJet destinations from Gatwick.”

Derek Provan, managing director of Aberdeen Airport, added: “This is an exciting time for us, and everyone is pleased to see this new service start.

“We are sure it will be well received by both our business and leisure passengers, providing another way of getting into London as well as connecting people through Gatwick’s well established leisure network.  We wish them every success with the new service.”

The launch of the new route from Aberdeen to Gatwick follows the announcement of a number of new routes this year as part of easyJet’s growth strategy for Scotland, including Glasgow to Amsterdam as well as Edinburgh to Athens.

The low fares airline now carries over four million passengers a year across Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Inverness, operating more than 300 flights between Scotland and London each week alone.
