The Capital Hotel, which has established itself as one of London’s leading hotels, and one of the last family-run, 5 star hotels in the city is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.

Equidistant from Harrods and Harvey Nichols on a quiet street in Knightsbridge, it continues to offer the very best of British hospitality. Opened in May 1971 by David Levin, he was recently joined by daughter, Kate in the role of General Manager. Under their guidance, the hotel continues to be known for the unique ‘Capital experience’, which begins in the hotel’s lobby with the warm welcome of The Capital’s staff and remains throughout the stay.

Whilst The Capital Hotel makes a point of its very traditional values in service and hospitality, the 49 luxurious bedrooms are being brought right up to date with an ongoing refurbishment. Classic English design is being enhanced with eclectic touches and detail throughout, and Kate has a personal hand in the design of each room, ensuring touches are individual yet practical. Accommodation includes one two-bedroom suite, eight junior suits and seven deluxe doubles.

The Capital Restaurant is one of the leading dining addresses in London. Its four-decade long history has featured head chefs such as Richard Shepherd, Brian Turner and Phillip Britten. Jérôme Ponchelle joined in 2009, and is now starting his chapter of the restaurant’s history, serving a menu which mixes creative flair with more classic dishes. To celebrate its 40th birthday, from May 12th the restaurant will be serving a degustation menu (six courses at £70, or £128 including wine) of highlights from the previous four decades.

The Capital Bar is a destination itself; a peaceful setting for coffee in the morning, a intimate lunch or afternoon tea venue or as a busy social meeting point for cocktail hour or post-dinner drinks. An exceptional wine list prevails, though justifiably head barman Cesar Da Silva is also proud of his whisky list, which includes a number of collectible bottles. The Bar will be celebrating the 40th anniversary with a menu of cocktails from the 1970’s, together with a special selection of wines and spirits of the 1971 vintage.

The Capital Hotel will be offering special birthday rates during the month of August, with rooms starting from £197.10 (Rates exclude VAT and are subject to availability)
