Experience Dive Fest in Dominica

This year’s Dive Fest takes place in Dominica next month and fans of the underwater world are invited to experience the Caribbean’s longest running diving festival!

Dominica boasts one of the most fascinating diving experiences in the Caribbean, with an enormously varied coast in terms of diving: steep 6,000ft drop-off walls, thriving reefs of beautifully coloured coral, Champagne snorkelling, craters and species that are rarely seen around other Caribbean islands.

Now in its 18th year, Dive Fest aims to bring scuba diving to a wider audience and raise awareness about the diving opportunities and unique marine life in Dominica. Taking place from 8-17 July 2011, it will look to build on last year’s successful event, which included underwater workshops and the first ever mermaid photo competition!

Experienced and beginner divers are invited to take part, with a number of taster sessions available throughout the week for both adults and children. Some of these sessions are free of charge or at a considerably reduced rate.

A number of other activities have also been planned, from whale watching and treasure hunt to photography classes and competitions. Dive Fest will culminate on 17 July with the annual and hotly contested Kubuli Carib canoe race, followed by the Soufriere Kubuli Beach Party.

Dive Fest is organised by the Dominica Watersports Association (DWA) and a detailed schedule of this year’s events can be found at: dominicawatersports.com

Dominica (pronounced Dom-in-ee-ka) is a spectacular green island of rugged mountains, lush rainforests and rushing rivers in the Eastern Caribbean, lying south of Guadeloupe and north of Martinique.
