‘Lady Gaga Day’ puts Taichung on the tourism map

The city of Taichung in central Taiwan has named this coming July 3rd ‘Lady Gaga Day’, marking the pop idol’s first visit.

The city authorities will throw a party to welcome the singer, at which she will be presented with the keys to the city.

Following the party, Lady Gaga is expected to perform songs from her new album ‘Born This Way’ in front of 4,000 fans at the Taichung Arena.

Mayor Jason Hu said the initiative was part of Taichung’s drive to raise its international profile.  Taichung is Taiwan’s third largest city with highlights including the shopping, dining and entertainment area Jingming First Street and the National Museum of Natural Science; the city is also an excellent base for the hiking and wildlife offered in the Dakeng Forest Recreation Area.

Taichung features in Sanya China Travel’s eight-day ‘Round Island China Tour’ which also includes Taiwan’s capital city Taipei, the scenic north-east coast and breathtaking Sun Moon Lake.  Prices for this group tour start at £1,300 per person, twin-share, including international flights.
