Persimmon submits plans for 250 homes in Shrewsbury
Persimmon Homes North West is pleased to announce the submission of an outline planning application for a new development in Shrewsbury.
The proposals for the 17.6 acre site at Shillingston Drive, adjacent to the historic village of Battlefield, will feature up to 250 new homes. The scheme will deliver 50 affordable homes in partnership with an affordable housing provider.
The Section 106 package linked to the scheme will include significant financial contributions towards education and the provision of public open space, over and above those requested as standard by Shropshire Council. It is proposed that 30 per cent of the homes – those which are predominantly south facing – will have solar panels to provide a renewable energy source and reduce homeowners’ electricity bills. Sustainable urban drainage solutions have also been incorporated into the design to accommodate flood risk and reduce the impact of the development on the wider area.
Furthermore the plans include the creation of an ‘EcoPark’ which will deliver a number of cycleways and footpaths, together with areas of formal play for children and informal open space. The ‘EcoPark’ will also include extensive ecological enhancements through the creation of meadows, ponds and wetland areas, with pond dipping platforms offering an opportunity for children to interact with natural habitats.
Whilst Lion Coppice does not form part of the development site, Persimmon’s outline application has regard for the protection of this area, including a five meter buffer from the development boundary. This area will also act as a wildlife corridor for small mammals and nesting birds.
Neil Follows, managing director for Persimmon Homes North West, said: “We have confidence in the Shropshire housing market and believe that our site will make a significant contribution towards addressing the housing need in Shrewsbury. Our proposals will deliver 250 family homes, including a number of affordable properties, as well as creating new local employment opportunities. We aim to make a positive addition to the local area through the delivery of an exemplar development which will be an attractive and aspirational place to live.”
The plans will be available to view on Shropshire Council’s website.
