Homebuyers Roy and Jenny Millerchip are delighted with their new home at Taylor Wimpey’s The Barns at Oakham Manor development of houses for sale in Telford.

When Roy and Jenny Millerchip made the decision to downsize, at first they weren’t overly optimistic that they would be able to find their dream property in Telford.

The retired couple were looking for a new-build, single-storey property for sale in Telford, but a lack of such properties on the local housing market left them facing a long wait for their perfect home – or the prospect of having to compromise.

Throw in the fact they had a home to sell themselves, and things weren’t as straightforward as the Millerchips had been hoping when it came to their search for houses to buy in Telford.

But all that changed when they discovered The Barns at Oakham Manor, Taylor Wimpey’s exclusive collection of bespoke courtyard properties in Telford’s Lightmoor Village, which offered them everything they had wanted and more.

They fell in love with the single-storey ‘Lilac Cottage’ at this select courtyard development of new homes in Telford, sold their house within just one week through Taylor Wimpey’s easymover incentive and have been pinching themselves ever since!

“We really couldn’t believe our luck when we stumbled across The Barns at Oakham Manor, and since then everything has gone better than we could ever have expected,” says Jenny (65).

“We knew easymover would help us sell our home, but to find a buyer in the very first week was incredible. Everything just slotted into place, it’s been a totally stress-free move, and now we have the most incredible property.”

Under the easymover scheme, Taylor Wimpey finds a buyer for the customer’s existing property in an average of only five weeks, and can even cover the cost of estate agents’ fees.

For Jenny and retired company director Roy (68), the hassle-free initiative meant they could settle into their ideal home much sooner than they had expected.

“My favourite room has to be the living room,” says Jenny. “It has beautiful barn oak flooring, a wonderful view of the courtyard and, like all the other rooms, is very light thanks to its big windows.

“The ceilings are higher than those you would find in an average house and everybody who has visits comments on how spacious our home feels. We certainly feel the same – and we moved from a big four-bedroom house!”

Steeped in rural history, The Barns at Oakham Manor occupies the site of a medieval farm. The remains of a brick-built farm house and barns dating back to the late 18th and early 19th centuries inspired the careful re-imaginings of these buildings – one of which is now home to the Millerchips.

“The setting is idyllic, and such care has been taken by Taylor Wimpey to make this development so special,” says Jenny.

“We have a lovely cottage garden out at the front and it looks so beautiful. The French doors in our lounge open out to a lovely private garden to the rear, which we’ll enjoy transforming into something special.

“And, while our home is only a matter of months old, it looks traditional from the outside – Taylor Wimpey used reclaimed bricks from the former farmhouse, and matched them with similar-looking ones to great effect.

“The road which serves the homes has also been block paved, rather than being the usual modern road surface, which adds to the charm of the place.”

The Barns at Oakham Manor’s location on the edge of some beautiful Shropshire countryside is another plus for Jenny and Roy, a former director of a tool manufacturing company.

“Within 30 seconds of leaving the house we can be strolling through meadows and woods, which is something you can’t really put a price on,” adds Jenny.

Just three barn-style conversions are now available to purchase at The Barns at Oakham Manor.

There’s a rare opportunity for one lucky first-time buyer to secure the charming one-bedroom ‘Laburnum Cottage’, priced at only £114,750 with Taylor Wimpey’s amazing easystart shared equity scheme – and with only a 5% deposit required*!

Alternatively, the delightful two-bedroom ‘Foxglove Cottage’ is available for just £199,995.

Each property blends traditional architecture with striking contemporary styling and is completed to a high standard specification including double glazing, central heating and fitted kitchen with integrated oven, hob and hood. Included with each plot is a garage and additional parking, or two allocated parking spaces.

All the new homes, which form part of the new Lightmoor Village community, are fitted with eco-features as standard including high levels of loft insulation, water-saving devices and A-rated appliances.

A new 210-place primary school is due to open at Lightmoor in September 2011, and will have seven classes, a play area and a multi-use games area for a range of sports and outdoor activities.

There will also be facilities within the school building to benefit the wider community, including meeting rooms, a hall, indoor sports and recreation areas and changing rooms, with long-term stewardship of the whole development to be secured by a specially convened Village Trust.

Lightmoor Village nestles in beautiful landscape between Telford and Coalbrookdale and benefits from over 50 acres of open landscaped areas for leisure, sport and recreational use.

The community will also be well-served by existing and new public transport links, with a bus service to Telford town centre where a wider range of shops and schools for children of all ages can be found.

Commuters will appreciate that the M54 and M6 just a short drive away, while Telford’s railway station provides links to Wolverhampton and Birmingham.

To find out more about the wonderful lifestyle opportunities on offer at The Barns at Oakham Manor for themselves, property-seekers can visit the Sales Centre, located at Woodland Lane, off Wellington Road, Lightmoor Village, Horsehay, TF4 3BH, and open Thursday to Monday from 11am to 5pm.
