Redrow cements friendship with neighbours

A day centre for adults with learning difficulties has received a boost from Redrow.
Construction workers building a range of two, three and four-bedroom homes off Keighley Road, in Halifax, took time out from a busy day to help build a wall for Pennine Magpie.
The not-for-profit social enterprise company teaches life skills to people with learning difficulties and, for safety reasons, they needed a new wall for their garden project.
Gill Sheard, general manager of Pennine Magpie, explained: “Our garden project features raised beds where clients can grow and tend to plants, fruit and vegetables. There’s a slope in the garden and to help make it safe we wanted to build a wall to stop students from falling. We didn’t have the funds for the work and as Redrow are building opposite us in Keighley Road we asked if they could assist. They came and did the work for us straight away without hesitation – it’s marvellous.”
As the foundations for the wall had already been built, Redrow poured concrete into them. The developer also provided mortar and supplied breeze blocks at cost price.
Patsy Aicken, sales director for Redrow Homes (Yorkshire), commented: “At Redrow we take pride not only in the homes we build but also in supporting and enhancing the communities in which we operate. As Pennine Magpie are our neighbours, based just a stone’s throw away from Wheatley Chase, we were only to pleased to share our expertise to help improve their facilities.”
