Manchester cricket club bowled over by Persimmon Homes

Staff from Persimmon Homes North West presented players from Manchester-based Woodhouses Cricket Club with a trophy for winning the quarter final round of this year’s Village Cup.

To mark its commitment to and sponsorship of the UK’s prestigious village cricket competition, now known as The Persimmon Village Cup 2011, staff from Persimmon attended the match on Sunday to present Mike Cassidy, captain of Woodhouses Cricket Club, with a celebratory trophy which will take pride of place in the pavilion.

Persimmon’s Jane Aldred, said: “We are committed to supporting the communities in which we build and I was really pleased to be invited to present the trophy to Woodhouses Cricket Club. The team has already done really well to win the quarter final round and I’d like to wish them the best of luck for the next stage of the competition - the semi finals on Sunday 7th August.”

The final score was Woodhouses 228-8 beating Stainsby Hall 106 all out.

The Village Cup – which is now known as The Persimmon Village Cup 2011 - is the principal cup competition for village cricket clubs in the UK. It launched in 1972, the same year Persimmon formed as a company, to promote village cricket and gives amateur players in 286 teams the chance to compete at a national event at Lord’s on Sunday 4th September.

Persimmon Homes North West is currently building in Baguley, Billinge, Davyhulme, Ellesmere Port, Lostock, Openshaw, Shrewsbury, Stalybridge, Warrington and Winstanley.
