Judy and her husband Mark found the perfect location for a weekend getaway when they purchased their two bedroom apartment at Housebuilder of the Year Weston Homes’ Hawkins Wharf development in Colchester.

Judy Stock, a company secretary and assistant in a gifts and interiors shop, lives in a four bedroom house in Halstead with her husband Mark. Working in interiors inspired Judy to creatively make over her new apartment using a seaside theme.

Judy comments: “Buying the apartment at Hawkins Wharf was extremely straightforward and my husband and I are both thrilled with our purchase.

“Everything about the apartment was perfect as it was, but I wanted to add my own touch and give it a fresh beachy feel. I stripped down the furniture and painted it to create a distressed look. I opted for natural colours such as duck egg blue and what I would call a deckchair stripe. It’s not all seagulls and shells everywhere, I also used grass greens and introduced wicker items for a contemporary look.

“We knew all about Colchester, as my husband used to work in nearby Hythe 20 years ago. A friend of ours also bought a property at Hawkins Wharf a couple of years ago on the first phase. We visited their apartment one evening and loved it, so we decided to buy one ourselves as a weekend holiday home. We didn’t specifically buy an apartment because our friends had a property, we just thought it was such a lovely area with great places to eat and drink. The location was spot-on.”

The first phase of the Hawkins Wharf waterfront development features 43 one and two-bedroom apartments and seven three/four bedroom townhouses, many with tranquil views over the River Colne. When complete, Hawkins Wharf will comprise 221 one, two and three-bedroom apartments and seven, three/four bedroom townhouses, as well as commercial and retail space.

Judy added: “Hawkins Wharf is in a very central location in Colchester, so we don’t need the car. We love walking along the Wivenhoe trail, which runs all the way along the River Colne to Wivenhoe Village; it’s beautiful there. There is also a nice bar just along the road from our apartment, which is always handy.

“Our apartment at Hawkins Wharf is the perfect retreat for us to take friends to on the weekend. Our balcony in the apartment overlooks the river, which is great for entertaining friends, and Colchester itself has plenty of sights to see. We couldn’t be happier.”

Bob Weston, Weston Homes Chairman and Chief Executive, commented: “The homes at Hawkins Wharf offer outstanding value for money, luxurious interiors, a fantastic location and unspoilt views of the river.”

Prices start from only £116,500 for one and two bedroom apartments and £225,000 for three/four bedroom townhouses.
