Seasoned Travel has launched holidays to some of Europe’s best food festivals as an antidote to the summer beach holiday grind. The ‘Festival of the Pig’ in France, ‘Copenhagen Cooking’ and the Jerez ‘Sherry Festival’ each offer a distinct flavour of the destination offering a weekend of French folly, Scandi sophistication or Spanish celebration.

La Pourcailhade - Festival of the Pig

As one of the largest pig-rearing areas in France, this festival, organised by the Brotherhood of the Pig, includes pig races, best pig fancy dress and a pig-imitation contest with local contestants performing their practiced piggy noises and squeaks.  Visitors to the event can enjoy an extensive market with local produce including, regional food and wines. With music and dancing this is a silly local festival for all the family.

Location: Jerez, Spain

Jerez embodies the heart of Andalucía. To commemorate the year’s grape harvest in this famous sherry producing area, Jerez de la Frontera hits the streets for a citywide party. This three-week extravaganza includes all the passion, colour, food and wine of the region.

The packed festival programme includes fiestas, concerts, flamenco dancing, traditional tapas, sherry sampling, dancing horse displays and bullfights as well as a harvest market. The people of Andalucía love to party and there is no doubt that this is one of the best fiestas of the year.
