Mazda BT-50: added zoom-zoom for UK pickup buyers

The Mazda BT-50 line-up for the UK market features four models – two Single Cab versions with a 2,280 mm long cargo bed and a choice of two- or four-wheel drive, and a pair of four-wheel drive Double Cab models with a 1,530 mm long cargo bed and choice of TS or TS2 equipment levels.
Measuring 5,075 mm in overall length, the new BT-50 is 70 mm longer than its predecessor, while the taller cargo box sides (+ 60 mm) and upgraded rear suspension, enable the 4x4 models to carry a load of up to 1,212 kg.
All four models are fitted with a newly developed MZR-CD 2.5-litre common-rail turbocharged DOHC 16-valve diesel engine, mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. More refined and more fuel efficient than the outgoing engine, this new 143 ps / 330 Nm power unit features a variable geometry turbocharger and an uprated inter-cooler to generate 34 ps more power and 64 Nm more torque.
All 4x4 models are equipped with a limited-slip differential in the rear axle, and a larger transfer case to efficiently translate the higher torque into improved traction. The car-like comfort of the new Mazda BT-50 is the result of numerous improvements, including upgraded front suspension, significant reductions in wind and engine noise at source, larger more supportive seats with a raised hip-point, higher specification audio systems and the availability of climate control air-conditioning.
UK Sales
Mazda UK will have a plentiful allocation of Mazda BT-50 vehicles during 2007 and anticipates a strong demand for this new model offering more style, car-like comfort, increased power and torque and even more practicality.
Depending on model, a choice of six exterior paint colours will be available – two micas (Black and Strato Blue), two metallics (Highlight Silver and Titanium Grey) and two solids (Nifty Red and Cool White). A black cloth velour interior is standard on all models, except the two-wheel drive Single Cab which features a Grey cloth interior.
While 15-inch standard steel wheels are fitted on the 4x2 version, the 4x4 Single Cab and 4x4 Double Cab TS feature a modern 15-inch styled-steel wheel. The range-topping 4x4 Double Cab TS2 is equipped with 16-inch diameter, 7-inch wide aluminium alloy wheels.
For the UK market, a special Lifestyle Accessory Pack will be available for Double Cab models. This pack consists of a front bumper guard, rear style bar, load bed liner, luxury interior mats, and Mazda BT-50 branded stainless steel scuff plates. This pack will retail at £1,499.95 including fitting and VAT.
Mazda targets Lifestyle and Commercial users with latest Pickup
Mazda’s entry in the Pickup sector of the UK market was always a good, strong functional vehicle with excellent reliability. Now with the new Mazda BT-50, Mazda is introducing some of its Zoom-Zoom philosophy “insightful, ingenious and fun” and giving its latest Pickup a wider appeal to a broader audience.
“The Mazda BT-50 is a more stylish, better equipped and even more practical vehicle that has much more car-like driving dynamics than its predecessor with improved road holding and enhanced performance from its newly developed diesel engine,” commented Mazda UK's Marketing Director Mark Cameron.
“The on-the-road prices for the Mazda BT-50 range are highly competitive for both retail and commercial customers and I am confident our new model will continue to build a strong presence for Mazda in this sector,” concluded Cameron.
