Mazda2 Mazda World Premieres in Geneva – the all-new Mazda2, Mazda Hakaze Concept Car and the Mazda3 2.0 MZR-CD.

Mazda Motor Corporation starts the European auto show season at the 2007 Geneva Motor Show with the all-new Mazda2, the ?rst new-generation model to evolve Mazda Zoom-Zoom to the next stage. Joining it at the stand is an exciting new concept car, Mazda Hakaze, and two vehicles that will ensure Mazda sales momentum continues in Europe this year and beyond – the new Mazda3 2.0 MZR-CD turbo diesel, along with the Mazda CX-7 sports car SUV.

Premiering at Geneva is the Mazda Hakaze concept car, the third expression of Mazda’s new Nagare design language developed by Mazda’s new global design director, Laurens van den Acker. Conceived at the Mazda Motor Europe design centre near Frankfurt, Germany, it is a unique compact crossover coupe with roadster feel. It features distinctive Nagare ?ow lines on the outside and a unique interior that combines sand dune like forms, natural-feeling surfaces and cool, kite-sur?ng functionality.

The All-New Mazda2 – Compact, Lightweight and Fun

Mazda chose Geneva 2007 for the world premiere of its new B-car, because sub-compacts are an important and growing segment, especially in Europe. However, the new Mazda2 is much more than simply a model change from the current Mazda2 – it is the ?rst of Mazda’s new-generation line up to re?ect an evolution of Zoom-Zoom. The all-new Mazda2 re?nes Mazda’s DNA, enhances B-car driving attributes, while meeting global environmental and safety standards. Body-structure optimization and an increased use of high-tensile steel have not only made the new Mazda2 safer and quieter, it also made it about 100 kg lighter than its predecessor, making it even more frugal at the pump.

On the outside, the new Mazda2 has an exquisite and dynamic design with a distinctive Mazda identity, while the inside design delivers a cabin that is refreshingly unique with contoured forms that combine thickness with strong visual movement. Added to this is insightful functionality, like a high placement of the gear lever for easy shifting and a new glove box with a magazine rack.

The new Mazda2 will be launched initially with two petrol engines, an MZR 1.3-litre engine (standard 75 PS and 84 PS high-power derivatives depending on market) and an MZR 1.5-litre with 103 PS of power. Both petrols have technologies that deliver brisk throttle response for everyday driving fun and fuel economy that is among the segment’s best. For the European market, a fuel-ef?cient MZ-CD 1.4-litre diesel engine will be introduced a few months later.

Mazda3 2.0 MZR-CD – the New Sporty Diesel Version

Mazda’s third global premiere at this year’s Geneva Motor Show is a new, powerful 2.0-litre common-rail version of Mazda’s best-selling Mazda3. It combines sporty driving enjoyment with low fuel consumption and will make Mazda3 even more popular in Europe. Its high torque of 360 Nm at just 2,000 rpm (one of the highest in the segment) and its output of 105 kW/ 143 PS at 3,500 rpm give the already agile-handling Mazda3 a truly sporty nature. Its high-pressure common-rail injection system ensures re?ned operation and contributes to low fuel consumption of just 6.0 litres of fuel per 100 km (combined) for both the sedan and hatchback.

Mazda CX-7 – The Sports Car SUV

Also at Geneva is a vehicle that shows Mazda at its innovative best – the European version of the new Mazda CX-7, set for launch later this year. A crossover vehicle , it combines high- performance power, a sporty design, SUV functionality and comfort in a single, fun to drive car. With its powerful MZR 2.3-litre direct-injection turbo petrol with intercooler, Mazda’s Active Torque-Split All-Wheel Drive system for superior traction and a six-speed manual transmission speci?cally developed for Europe, the Mazda CX-7 delivers levels of Zoom-Zoom driving fun not usually found in an SUV. Added to this fun-factor is a long list of standard equipment, all of which makes the Mazda CX-7 an ideal vehicle for a sporty and multi-activity lifestyle.
