Persimmon provides a secure future

Creating a nest egg for the future is not easy in today’s climate but for Nick and Anne Redman, the answer lay at Persimmon Homes’ Okemont Grove development in Okehampton.

Nick, an area construction manager for Persimmon Homes, explains: “When I was in my 20s I was sold a “marvelous pension” as so many people were. I’m 50 now and it’s not making anywhere near what I was told it would be worth. My wife and I decided to look at alternatives and chose to invest in property.

“I knew Okemont Grove and was impressed with its location which is close to Exeter but the house prices are less expensive than in the city. The letting return on property is good compared with the purchase price.”

The couple chose a three bedroom Woodford house-type which would yield a greater rental return than a smaller home. The plot they selected overlooks the public open space on the development with lovely views to the rear and it was this excellent location which made them keen to secure the deal.

Nick knew that Persimmon Homes promises a smooth completion but says he wanted to test out the buying process for himself. In fact it took just three weeks to get the keys to his first investment property and three days later he’d already found tenants through a local letting agent.

“Our tenants moved in exactly a month after we bought the property and it’s been a very straightforward experience from start to finish,” he says. “We’re very happy with our investment and our tenants are happy because they’d been looking to buy at Okemont Grove but wanted to try out living in the area first.”

Okemont Grove offers superb investment opportunities, being just 25 miles from Exeter and offering easy commuting along the main A30 dual carriageway. It is also only a short walk to Okehampton with plenty of amenities on hand.

There are currently two Woodford house-types available at the development. The end terrace is priced at £151,500 and the mid terrace costs £148,750. Both include a single garage and a parking space.

Perfect for renting out, the Woodford has a kitchen, lounge / diner with patio doors and a cloakroom on the ground floor. Upstairs is a master bedroom with en suite, two further good sized bedrooms and a bathroom.

For Nick and Anne, their purchase at Okemont Grove is just the start. “We plan to buy more properties with the funds which will become available to us over the next ten years,” Nick says. “It’s a much better bet than my current pension.”
