Samsung has launched the BD-DT7800 a new Freeview PVR. The new set top box not only gives access to and records digital channels in HD, but also unlocks a world of content through the Samsung Smart Hub, converts 2D images to 3D and has built in WiFi.

Available in-store from 11th August, the Samsung BD-DT7800 is the perfect solution for the digital switchover, as it plugs straight into the aerial to receive Freeview in high definition picture quality.

Digital HD recording

The BD-DT7800 has twin HD tuners so viewers can watch one programme in HD, while recording another. With a 500GB built-in hard disc drive for saving and playing back content it allows users to edit TV programmes once they have finished recording them, so they can keep the best bits of a programme, and also list a TV series in order. The scene searcher function lets viewers rewind or fast forward to a certain point in their favourite films and TV shows just by clicking on the thumbnail shots.

Smart viewing

The Samsung Smart Hub, which is built into the BD-DT7800 and all new products in the Samsung Blu-ray and Blu-ray Home Entertainment range, gives access to thousands of movies online, the opportunity to chat with friends on Twitter, Facebook or Skype, watch YouTube videos and enjoy music on demand, at any time. Users will also never miss their favourite TV programmes with catch up services such as BBC’s iPlayer. The BD-DT7800 also has built-in Wireless LAN so users can connect to the internet without any cables.

Content hub

The BD-DT7800 can act as a Digital Media Server. Samsung’s All Share function, accesses files from other DNLA enabled devices in the home, such as films on a laptop, images on a wireless enabled camera or camcorder, and music on a smart phone, and users can playback the content through the PVR on their television. In addition, the BD-DT7800 also backs-up files from other devices, acting as a storage hub for the home.

Immersive 3D experience

The BD-DT7800 converts 2D content into 3D, so viewers can watch TV programmes, personal videos and web content in full 3D, with a pair of infra-red powered 3D glasses. The PVR not only records in 2D HD but in 3D too so viewers can re-live the immersive experience of 3D films, and sports matches time and time again.

From the 11th August, customers purchasing a Samsung BD-D8900, BD-8500 and BD-D8200 Smart Blu-ray players will be able to claim £50 cash back and those who buy a Samsung BD-D6900 Blu-ray, BD-DT7800 Freeview and SMT-S7800 Freesat personal video recorders will be entitled to £30 cash back.
