Fleet owners urged to ensure complete Mazda DSR compliance

Fleet owners urged to ensure complete Mazda DSR compliance Mazda is urging all fleet vehicle owners and repairers to ensure company cars have their service records maintained on the manufacturer’s unique online database to enable fast track access of digital service records. Since July 1, 2006 the service history of all newly registered Mazda vehicles has been recorded online following the introduction of a Digital Service Record (DSR) system.

While the DSR has now replaced the fully stamped service booklet as the traditional guarantee that a Mazda car has been maintained in accordance with the manufacturer’s laid down criteria, there are fears that some repairers, particularly independents and fleet operated workshops, are not using the system to update a vehicle’s history.

It is equally important that those same organisations access Mazda’s online technical information system (MESI) for the very latest technical support. The DSR is an electronic logbook that records a vehicle’s complete service history. Totally secure, it cannot be lost - unlike a traditional service booklet - and printouts are available at anytime.

By ensuring that the DSR is up to date and in line with Mazda’s recommended servicing and body inspection intervals, company car residual values are maximised at sale time. Disposing of a vehicle without a comprehensive vehicle service history may well mean a lower sale price. Additionally, warranty validity is protected.

Meanwhile, the ability to obtain comprehensive DSR printouts also helps to prove fleet operator compliance with duty of care obligations. Ever-toughening occupational road risk management regulations mean that police officers investigating a crash involving an at-work vehicle will most likely require full service, maintenance and repair records.

James Hopkins, Mazda’s fleet and remarketing director, said: “All newly registered Mazda vehicles must have their service history recorded on the DSR system. Independent fleet repairers and fleet workshops are also able to request access to DSR and MESI.

“It is essential that each vehicle’s DSR be updated after every scheduled service, extended service item and body inspection. Each time a Mazda vehicle enters any workshop an updated DSR printed record should be provided to the fleet operator for future reference.”

While it is vital that all service outlets and repairers register, it is equally important that fleet operators register and request access to DSR so they can produce a DSR printout whenever one is required.

Mr Hopkins explained: “Independent repairers and fleet workshops may not necessarily see the point in registering just for Mazda when they handle vehicles from numerous manufacturers.

“We are therefore calling on all fleet operators that have SMR work undertaken on their Mazda vehicles outside of our own Authorised Repairer network to be proactive in both registering themselves and encouraging their service agents to register.

“By taking this action fleets and SMR workshops are protecting the residual value of Mazda vehicles and fulfilling their duty of care obligations.

“Mazda was the first manufacturer to introduce DSR and it means one less administrative headache for fleet vehicle owners. However, we do need the help of fleet operators and their service agents to ensure 100 per cent compliance.”
