Manchester United odds-on to win more trophies than City this season

With the Manchester derby just days away, bwinbetting.com is highlighting the release of three new markets relating to the performance of United and City over the course of the season. Bwin.com is now offering bets on which club will end the campaign with the most silverware, as well as the individual number of trophies Manchester United and Manchester City will win. Worryingly for the Citizens, the Red Devils are odds-on to continue their superiority and end the season as Manchester's most successful club.

Manchester City might go into Sunday's Manchester derby as the Premier League pace-setters but they are outsiders in the race to win more trophies than neighbours Manchester United this season.

In a new special market released by bwin.com, Sir Alex Ferguson's men are priced at 19/20 to finish the 2011/12 campaign with more silverware than the Citizens.

This leaves City as 13/4 underdogs to trump United's honours roll, while 2/1 is available on the two clubs to finish with an equal trophy haul.

Included in the reckoning by bwin.com are the Premier League, FA Cup, Carling Cup, Champions League and Europa League trophies, although as City and United could only win the Europa League if they finished third in their group and failed to qualify for the last 16 of the Champions League, a version of the quadruple is the best they can aim for.

City's status as outsiders lends weight to Ferguson's "noisy neighbours" theory, in which he suggested that for all their sabre-rattling the Citizens are still not equipped to compete with the very best.

History certainly backs up this assertion, with City having secured just one trophy - last season's FA Cup - in 35 years.

During this time, United have claimed 12 Premier League titles, eight FA Cups, four League Cups and three European Cups/Champions League trophies.

This indicates that while City lead United by two points in the Premier League table and are still in all of the cups going into this weekend's derby, it will be the Red Devils who are best positioned come the business end of the season.

Nevertheless, for those who think the tide is turning blue the price of 13/4 on Roberto Mancini's side to convert their promising start into trophies represents an excellent opportunity.

New customers can claim a £25 free bet by signing up for a bwin account and depositing £25.

Using this to back City to secure more silverware than United this season would win £106.25 should the bet prove successful.

Bwin.com is also taking bets on the number of trophies each club will win.

United are priced at evens to end the season without anything to show for their efforts, 5/4 to win one trophy, 13/2 to win two, 50/1 to win three and 500/1 to win all four available to them.

Meanwhile, City are 19/20 to end the season potless but the same price as their neighbours to win one, two, three and four items of silverware.

And looking ahead to the derby at Old Trafford on Sunday, the home side are evens favourites to secure the win in bwin's 3Way football betting market, with a draw priced at 9/4 and an away victory at 11/4.
