British eventers benefit from extra horsepower

Dick, who won a team silver medal at the Games in Aachen, and Townend join fellow riders Pippa Funnell, William Fox-Pitt, Jeanette Brakewell and Mary King in benefiting from some extra horsepower, courtesy of the Volkswagen Touareg.
One of the most sophisticated vehicles in its segment, the Touareg performs equally well off- as well as on-road. Its all-round ability combined with excellent towing capacity makes it the ideal car to meet the needs of those involved in equestrianism.
‘I was absolutely delighted to represent Britain in the World Equestrian Games and as a result, very excited to be handed the keys to a wonderful new Volkswagen Touareg,’ beamed 33-year-old Dick.
The support provided by Volkswagen for the British Eventers, who regularly travel up and down the country between competitions with a horse box in tow, enables them to perform at the highest level.
Features such as permanent four-wheel drive, low and high gear ratios, electronic traction control linked to an auto-locking centre differential, hill start and descent assist and short front and rear overhangs all contribute to class-leading capability when venturing off the beaten track.
As well as delivering top-class performance, the Touareg is luxuriously appointed and equipped, offering features – depending on the model chosen – such as leather upholstery, heated front seats, satellite navigation, electronic climate control and a six-disc CD autochanger.
The natural fit between product and sport is the foundation of the relationship between Volkswagen and British Eventing.
‘Volkswagen is proud to support British Eventing and some of its most successful riders,’ said Adam Chamberlain, Head of Luxury Cars for Volkswagen. ‘The feedback we’ve had so far from those riders who are driving Touaregs is that the car is the perfect tool to help them do their job.’
Volkswagen was also the official vehicle supplier for this year’s Blenheim International Horse Trials in the beautiful surrounds of Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire.
