The Fox The smallest Volkswagen has won out against big competition in the prestigious Northern Group of Motoring Writers awards. The event, held at the Redworth Hall Country Hotel near Newcastle judged the Fox to be the best value car on sale today to win the hard fought ‘Best For T’Brass Award’.

‘Brass means money to Northerners and by reputation they are keen on saving it’ explained Keith Ward, Chairman of The Northern Group of Motoring Writers. ‘The voting panel short listed ten cars. We judged the cars not just on performance but on value – at every level – to the customer. It was very tight but the Fox emerged as the winner’.

Receiving the award – fittingly created out of a genuine brass Yorkshire mining lamp – was a delighted Paul Buckett, Head of Press and Public Relations for Volkswagen who gamely donned a traditional flat cap for the occasion.

The diminutive Fox was praised by the judges not just for its value but also its mix of style, economy, low running costs and low purchase price. The event was the 33rd of its kind since the Northern Group of Motoring Writers was formed in 1973.
