AMEX British Airways cardmembers get more with Avios

18th November 2011 Print

To celebrate the launch of Avios, American Express British Airways Classic Card is introducing a range of special offers for both new and existing customers over the next month.

From the 17th November, 2011 until February 29th, 2012, new customers who take out the American Express British Airways Classic Card, will receive 9,000 bonus Avios when they spend £1,000 in the first three months of Cardmembership - enough for a zone  one return flight including destinations such as Paris, Nice & Berlin.

Existing Cardmembers will also benefit from the launch of Avios. From the start of December, 2011 until February 29th, 2012, American Express British Airways Classic Cardmembers can earn double Avios when buying British Airways flights and holidays.

All American Express British Airways Cardmembers will also be able to take advantage from the fact that with Avios, you can now redeem points for car hire from Avis and hotel stays with over 10,000 hotels worldwide - including Accor, Hilton and Intercontinental.

Furthermore there's less to pay when you use your Avios for short-haul flights to zones 1-3. All American Express British Airways Cardmembers will pay only the flight cost in Avios and a flat fee of £27 (Euro Traveler) or £34 (Club Europe) for their return flight. All other taxes, fees and charges will be included. The amount of Avios needed to reach certain destinations has changed too, so you can get there for less. For example, previously you needed to redeem 50,000 BA Miles for a reward flight to New York. Now, you only need 40,000 Avios.

Finally, as part of its recommend a friend offer, American Express is also giving an additional 4,000 bonus Avios to any Cardmember who recommends a friend and they are subsequently accepted  on the card.
