Turbo Dynamics announce partnership with Volkswagen Racing Leading Turbocharging Remanufacturers and Hybrid Turbocharger Designers, Turbo Dynamics have announced that they will be continuing their technical partnership with Volkswagen Racing into 2008.

Of the successful partnership, which has been in place since the millennium, Volkswagen Racing Director, Sam Roach commented, “We are delighted to have Turbo Dynamics as a championship partner, not least because their technology is employed in so many cars on the grid!

“The wealth of experience that Turbo Dynamics brings to Volkswagen Racing’s technical challenges is unrivalled. We simply would not be able to deliver on the increasingly demanding technical challenges that motorsport in the 21st century brings without Turbo Dynamics’ expertise”.

Turbo Dynamics’ specialist knowledge has been applied to many noteworthy racing vehicles on the Volkswagen Racing Cup grid. “One of the key challenges in 2007 was the world’s first ever usage of Volkswagen’s impressive TSI technology,” continued Roach. “The diminutive 1.4 engine uses both a supercharger and turbocharger to deliver its power. Never before had this motor been used in motorsport, but with the help of a very special one-off development of the turbo from our partners Turbo Dynamics we managed to extract a spectacular 230 BHP from the 1.4 engine. We will again be turning to their assistance to take this to the next level with its installation into this year’s Jetta TSI – a heavier car that will demand additional power.”

Meanwhile, further groundbreaking developments by Turbo Dynamics are represented by another, very different vehicle on the same grid. The infamous Caddy Van TDI Racer has taken turbo diesel technology to unparalleled levels. Its 2.0 diesel engine now develops over 290 BHP using a Turbo Dynamics one-off turbocharger. This output is believed to be the highest specific power output per litre from any diesel engine running on normal diesel fuel anywhere in the world, eclipsing even the mighty Le Mans-winning Audi diesel race engines.

Turbo Dynamics, who have been experiencing rapid growth of up to 33% a year, are keen to continue lending their expertise and time to the exciting championship, which last year saw Tony Gilham win the cup title in a Golf GTI using a Turbo Dynamics unit.

TD Director, Peter Marsh commented, “The Volkswagen Racing Cup is a superb championship and is of particular importance to us because of the large number of turbocharged cars – both petrol and diesel – which compete. We are pleased to be involved.”

Along with Turbo Dynamics continued support, tyre manufacturers, Hankook have announced that they will be sponsoring Volkswagen Racing again and SKY television will be continuing to broadcast the events, as in previous years.

This year’s Volkswagen Racing Cup is expected to be an even more impressive event than its preceding years; expanding to 14 rounds for the first time in its history. Two rounds will now take place at each of the circuits in Oulton Park, Rockingham, Snetterton, Thruxton, Brands Hatch, Silverstone and Donington Park, with the first kicking off in March.

Crowd attendance is also forecast to be at its largest yet, with 25,000 spectators predicted to be at the Oulton Park and Brands Hatch Grand Prix events. Altogether, Volkswagen Racing are expecting over 85,000 spectators.

Championship Manager, Melissa Wright said of the event’s growth, “After seven seasons, we think the series has grown enough to add a new competitive dimension. It’s something the drivers have requested and we are pleased to offer it.”

Wright continued, “Interest in the championship for 2008 is running high. We are receiving enquiries from many drivers new to Volkswagen Racing, as well as from the long-time supporters. There are several new cars either in build or being sourced: it’s all very encouraging.”

The most exciting car in preparation for the championship is the new, innovative Jetta TSI, which has a 1.4 Turbo Dynamics turbocharged and supercharged engine. The car is being prepared by Volkswagen Racing themselves, who are hoping to get an impressive 240 BHP. The Jetta will be raced by a different journalist at each of the race meetings, with EVO magazine, Top Gear magazine and Fifth Gear already being pencilled in for drives.

The season will draw to a close in September when tensions will be high as everyone waits to see who will claim the sought after cup title.
