Home lads helping to build The Homelands

Two local lads are laying the foundations for successful careers at Bovis Homes South West region’s Homelands development.

The new 400-home community is taking shape a stone’s throw from the Company’s regional offices in Bishop’s Cleeve and in the thick of the action are new apprentices Steve Robey and George Curr.

Both Steve and George live in the village and have been taken on by the South West regions’ successful apprenticeship scheme in the last couple of months, spending four days at the site and one day each studying at Gloucestershire College in Cheltenham.

“I’m really enjoying it,” said 17-year-old George. “I’m learning a lot and carpentry is what I want to do in the future.”

Steve, 20, has been learning his trade as a bricklayer at The Homelands. “I’ve been generally helping out and getting used to life on site,” he said. “There are a lot of opportunities at Bovis Homes and a chance to stay on after our apprenticeship.”

Area Build Manager Simon Brain has been overseeing the start of the pair’s lives as apprentices.

He said: “These are local lads getting a job on a local site. Steve and George are the new blood in the industry that we need and now they are on site they are seeing opportunities opening up for them.”

Building and selling is moving on apace at The Homelands, where work started this summer, with the first customers already in their new homes in time for Christmas.
