Iconic opening for Inchcape Volkswagen

28th October 2008 Print
Inchcape Volkswagen Chelmsford’s Volkswagen retailer, Inchcape, opened its new building in style with an evening mixing icons with tradition at the Westway site.

Nearly 300 guests joined staff from Inchcape and Volkswagen UK to celebrate with a ‘Traditions & Icons’ themed party. Traditional family fair games and refreshments were joined by immaculate examples of iconic Volkswagens through the ages to mark the opening of the new facility in style.

Supplied by Chelmsford’s Volkswagen Club the historic display featured original examples of the Volkswagen Camper Van, the iconic Beetle (of which over 21 million were made) and Mk I Golf convertible to add to the iconic flavour of the evening.

Inchcape Volkswagen’s brand manager, Darren Thompson, said: “The evening was a fantastic way of thanking everyone for their hard work and patience while the new building was built. It’s taken over three years of planning, but it’s been worth the wait.

“I’m delighted so many people came along to celebrate with us and enjoy the traditional family favourites and to see Volkswagens – both old and, of course, new.”

The innovative new building is on the former Marconi Marine head office site and includes one of the largest indoor used car centres in the UK, with over 100 cars on display.

Based on three floors the new Inchcape Volkswagen site is centred around a unique glass atrium that is at the heart of the 3.7 acre construction. New cars are situated on the ground floor with the first floor being occupied by an expansive used car centre.

Robin Woolcock, Managing Director of Volkswagen Group UK Ltd, said: “The new building will provide a unique sight for anyone passing and also provide all customers with the best possible facilities to service and purchase new and used vehicles.

“The staff at Inchcape Volkswagen should be proud of what was a fun-packed, successful evening.”

Alex Hill from Colchester was presented with a special trophy at the end of the evening for the fastest lap time on the one of the highlight of the night, a Volkswagen Beetle racing game. His blistering lap also won him a family trip to the London Eye.
