Intrepid Travel returns to Burma

1st December 2011 Print

Intrepid Travel, an adventure travel company with a legacy of bringing travelers to some of the world’s most intriguing regions, is reintroducing trips to Burma from March 2012, following the release of Aung San Suu Kyi from house arrest and the National League for Democracy's (NLD) decision to end its recommended tourist boycott of the country.

In recent months, Burma has reportedly shown some progress in its political situation. "Amid the political unrest that has punctuated the world’s perception of the country over the years, the beauty of the country and the generosity and warmth of the Burmese people have remained constant," Geoff Manchester, Co-founder of Intrepid Travel, said.

Intrepid Travel is confident that at least 75% of the money it spends in Burma will end up in the pockets of locals as a result of its "grassroots" style of travel, which involves staying at locally owned accommodation, eating in locally owned restaurants and using local transport wherever possible.

Intrepid Travel will run its first trip to Burma in March 2012 and has 19 departures scheduled until March 2013. Travellers who want to be one of the first to experience Burma are being encouraged to book early with a 15% discount on selected departure dates for bookings made before 16 January using the promotional code 6576.
