When Kordian Kochowicz and his family needed to buy a home in Leeds help was at hand from the Government and a local housebuilder.

Kordian, Katarzyna Flif, who both work for a local parcel delivery company, and their one year old daughter, Victoria, have recently bought their first family home after several years of renting upheaval due to a series of landlords deciding to sell the properties the family were renting.

With Kordian and Katarzyna having day jobs that involve moving packages they soon tired of packing up their personal belongings and searching for new properties to relocate to.

It was when the couple visited Taylor Wimpey’s The Gateway development and took advantage of the simple FirstBuy scheme that enabled the family to take their first steps onto the property ladder.

Launched around six months ago, FirstBuy is breathing life into the first time buyer market as it requires only a 5% deposit, instead of the larger 15-20% deposits required by many mortgage providers.

FirstBuy works through a joint loan of 20% from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) and Taylor Wimpey, which means that eligible purchasers only need put down a 5% deposit and obtain a 75% loan-to-value mortgage. The loan is repayable at the end of the 25 year mortgage term or when the property is sold. To be eligible, purchasers must be first time buyers and the total household earnings should be less than £60,000.

With FirstBuy at The Gateway, a two bedroom apartment starts at £91,996 and three bedroom townhouses starts at £119,996. It is an affordable choice too, offering a high quality home at a great value price.

Kordian commented: “We lived locally to Taylor Wimpey’s The Gateway development and decided to research the properties available. We just turned up and were able to take a tour of the houses available.

“The sales executive was very helpful and made us aware of all the deals and advised on the one that would best suit us. She was also able to help ensure we had a smooth move.”

The family are now enjoying their contemporary three bedroom Loweswater townhouse at The Gateway. Boasting a large kitchen dining area, integral garage and en-suite master bedroom, their new home provides flexible accommodation for the family.

The Gateway offers a superb collection of two bedroom apartments, three and four bedroom townhouses and four and five bedroom detached homes in cosy, woodland setting.

It is within easy reach of the city centre and well-placed to access major motorways, the M1 and M62.
