New homes in Telford with just a 5% deposit

First-time buyers Tony Walker and Sami Henderson were given all the help they needed to purchase their own home at Taylor Wimpey’s The Meadows development of property for sale in Telford, Shropshire.
Like many young couples looking to get a foothold on the property ladder, Shropshire property-seekers Tony Walker and Sami Henderson feared that today’s difficult economic climate might make the journey to home-ownership a difficult and frustrating experience.
Gloomy media reports had convinced the pair that the odds were stacked against them as first-time buyers – and so it came as something of a surprise when they found out how easy and affordable it was to purchase their ideal home at Taylor Wimpey’s The Meadows development of new homes for sale in Telford.
Not only were the 22-year-olds bowled over by the spacious layout of the Taylor Wimpey Telford development and the stylish design of the new homes, but thanks to the specialist assistance on offer from the leading housebuilder, they discovered they only needed a 5% deposit to secure their perfect Telford property.
“When we first starting looking at buying together, we’d already saved up a small deposit – but we thought it would be well into 2012 before we’d have enough to finally make a purchase,” remembers Tony, who, like his fiancée, had previously been living with his parents in Penkridge before they moved to their new Taylor Wimpey property in Telford.
“All you hear on the news these days is how hard things are for first-time buyers, so we were really surprised when we discovered The Meadows and Taylor Wimpey told us about the help that’s available for people in our situation.
“As it turned out, all we needed was a 5% deposit and this meant we could buy our first home much earlier than we’d ever expected.
“It’s great to be on the property ladder and not have to fork out rent every month. We moved in just before Christmas and it’s not taken us long to make it feel like our home. We love it here – it’s absolutely fantastic!”
Prices at The Meadows start at just £94,995 for two-bedroom apartments, £149,995 for three-bedroom detached houses and £162,995 for four-bedroom properties.
Selected plots are available with the Government-backed FirstBuy scheme, which lets qualifying first-time buyers purchase their new home for 80% of its full purchase price, including a 5% deposit, subject to status. Full details of this fantastic initiative are available from the Sales Executive at the development.
Tony, a Timber Manager at a builder’s merchant, and Sami, a trainee pharmacy technician, chose the delightful two-bedroom ‘Primrose’ semi-detached home because its generous interior layout was ideal for their needs.
“We’re really happy with our new home – it’s a lot more roomy than many of the other new builds we’d previously seen and is exactly what we were looking for,” says Tony, who manages a builder’s merchants in Telford.
“We wanted somewhere suitable for entertaining our friends, and the open-plan kitchen/dining/living room downstairs is just right for that. The bedrooms are also really spacious and the garden is a great size – in fact, we couldn’t believe how much bigger it is than some of the other places we’d looked at!”
The couple were also impressed with the fantastic benefits offered by the convenient location of The Meadows, which is part of Telford’s sought-after Millennium Village.
“It’s a lovely development and all the properties are very well spaced out,” adds Tony. “There are fields and trees all around and even a nature reserve – and although the town centre is only 10 minutes away, it doesn’t feel like we’re living in a built-up area because it’s so quiet here.”
Telford’s Millennium Village is an innovative development created in partnership with the Homes and Communities Agency and the borough of Telford & Wrekin, and The Meadows is the latest phase of new Taylor Wimpey homes within this exciting new neighbourhood.
The settlement is designed to be sustainable, ensuring it will include safe places for children to play, a new school, a community centre and fantastic public transport links. Planners were also tasked with giving as much thought to the needs of pedestrians and cyclists as car-users.
Wildlife habitats and green spaces are protected, which is great news for the resident population of common lizards, bats, badgers and birds, and the community also benefits from public footpaths criss-crossing picturesque meadows, a natural meeting area and an impressive monkey puzzle tree, which serves as a wonderful focal point for the development.
The Meadows is ideally placed to take advantage of the region’s travel network, with junction 6 of the M54 close by, for quick links to the M6 and M6 Toll to Staffordshire and Birmingham and the A5 for Shrewsbury. Regular direct rail services operate from three stations in the town to Wolverhampton, Shrewsbury, Birmingham New Street and London Marylebone.
The Telford Shopping Centre boasts more than 150 stores including House of Fraser, Marks & Spencer and Debenhams, along with enticing cafes, bars and restaurants, while for entertainment and leisure, Oakengate Theatre, Telford Ice Rink, Telford Ski Centre and a multi-screen cinema are located within easy reach of the development.
Meanwhile, the stunning UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ironbridge Gorge lies just a few miles out of town amid Shropshire’s splendid countryside, while beautiful mid-Wales and Snowdonia National Park are only a short drive away.
Parents will appreciate the abundance of good schools nearby, including the high-performing Thomas Telford School and the innovative £70 million Hadley Learning Community.
