Low prices make late-season skiing best value ever says Ski-Val

1st March 2012 Print

Chalet specialist Ski-Val is holding post-Easter prices low despite the fact that record snow falls mean its two resorts – Val d’Isere in France and St Anton in Austria – have outstanding snow depths, and the operator expects skiing to continue to the end of April.

“There’s almost two metres of snow in the French Alps and even more in Austria, which has also had fresh snow over the weekend, so whatever happens to the weather from now on, we’re looking at one of the longest seasons in our 30-year history,” says managing director Jackie Harris.

The company’s Easter weeks are virtually sold out, but there are pockets of availability before the end of March as well as for the last two weeks of the season, with prices as low as £499.

£499 per person is for the week starting 14 April in Val d’Isere at The Chamois d’Or, a Savoyarde chalet-hotel landmark at the foot of Le Face run on Bellevarde, which provides skiing from the front door and 23 en-suite rooms to sleep from two to four people.

The price is based on two sharing, and includes return flights from Gatwick, transfers and chalet-board arrangements of a hearty breakfast and afternoon tea every day with a three-course dinner with wine on six evenings.   There’s a resident Ski-Val team at the hotel, a bar, restaurant, lounge and terrace and a friendly atmosphere.

The same low price also applies to holidays at Julie’s Haus in St Anton starting 15 April.  This 12-room modern, yet traditionally styled chalet is a cosy base well-located between the slopes and the resort centre and there’s a complimentary ‘to the slopes’ hotel mini-bus in the mornings, while the resort’s free ski bus stop is only three minutes’ walk away.  Again, prices include return Gatwick flights, transfers and chalet-board.

Individual chalets – ideal for a group of friends to take over – with late-season availability include Landhaus Moos A in St Anton, a family-owned traditional chalet with real character, just above the village for superb ski-in/ski-out opportunities.  Sleeping 12, the price per person for full occupancy is only £519 for the week starting 15 April.
