We love music - Düsseldorf's musical highlights 2012

In 2012 the metropolis on the Rhine is again bursting with rich and varied musical influences in all areas, showing that music in Düsseldorf is more than just an excellent remembrance of a very successful Eurovision Song Contest last year. The city tells a musical story to everybody!

From the age when Düsseldorf was an important part of the German speaking classical music which influenced the world, to the global influence of Kraftwerk, the pioneers of electronic music: The musical variety of Düsseldorf is endless. Unique Records, one of Europe's biggest dance record labels is at home here as well as Germany's most famous punk band Die Toten Hosen, which grew successful in the legendary club Stone im Ratinger Hof, the German punk Mecca of the 1970 and 80s.

The Arts Academy, the opera house Deutsche Oper am Rhein, the Tonhalle (once the world's largest planetarium and today an impressive concert hall), the Robert Schumann School of Music and many other music venues and fanatics provide the city with new musical influences year after year.

To discover Düsseldorf's affluent musical history and the tales of what is happening now in the city's music scene, Düsseldorf Tourist Board offers a "We Love Music"-guided tour every first Saturday of the month, duration approx. 120 min.

Festival Highlights 2012:

Schumann-Festival (24 May - 4 June 2012)
GET ROMANTIC! Robert Schumann, one of Germany's most famous composers, is said to be the German Romantic and used to be head conductor of the Düsseldorf Symphony Orchestra. This year's Schumann festival is characterized by big names of the music scene, composing own 'creations' to present a new image of Schumann.

For those who would like to learn more about Schumanns life and work in Düsseldorf, Düsseldorf Tourist Board offers the guided walk "In the footsteps of Clara and Robert Schumann".

Düsseldorfer Jazz Rally (25 - 27 May 2012)
In May it's time again for Germany's largest Jazz festival: Düsseldorf will transform into a swinging and dancing city. Around 300,000 visitors from all over will be able to experience in four days over 80 concerts on 35 stages with 500 musicians, presenting a variety of jazz and related musical styles: Funk, Soul, Blues and Rock.

Open Source Festival (30 June 2012)
A magnificent summer festival, with three stages amid leafy surroundings, the ultimate platform for the latest trends in clubbing and pop culture - open and diverse, dynamic and innovative, experimental and substantial.

New Fall Festival (3 - 7 October 2012)
New Fall Festival is based on the simple belief that music and setting influence each other. This is especially true for a new generation of bands that share elements of pop and classical music. The festival aims to provide special venues for special artists. 15 of them are invited to play in two of Germany's most beautiful concert halls, their music ranges from singer/songwriter to electronic sounds.
