RAW - The Artisan Wine Fair

16th March 2012 Print

As RAW approaches, Isabelle Legeron and her team are busy organising a very exciting celebration of organic and biodynamic wine. RAW, the artisan wine fair, is a two-day show with some of the best natural wine talent in the world taking place in London on May 20th & 21st.

Big names from the Natural Wine World exhibiting

Featuring around 150 growers, RAW promises to be one of the most exciting collections of fine, organic and biodynamic wine artisans ever to come together in the capital. Big names of the wine world will be at the fair including Domaine de Trevallon, La Coulée de Serrant, Roagna, Cornelissen, Château le Puy, La Biancara and Le Soula. RAW is also delighted to host producers who have never been shown in the UK before.

Georgian Feast

On the Monday evening of the fair, a large celebratory Georgian wine feast is being planned with a menu that has been prepared by London’s Little Georgia restaurant in partnership with 2-star Michelin chef, Claude Bosi of Hibiscus. It will be a great opportunity to meet and socialize with all the producers from RAW, as well as share a traditional Georgian supra: a feast laden with food, wine, warmth and the UNESCO-protected Georgian heritage….polyphonic singing.

Champagne

RAW will be the destination to taste natural champagnes with producers travelling over from France to attend the fair, Champagne Benoit Lahaye, Champagne Fleury, Champagne Françoise Bedel, Champagne Marie Courtin, Champagne Tarlant and Champagne David Léclapart will all be exhibiting.

Talks, Tastings, debates and a pop-up cinema

A programme of talks and tastings at the fair will feature top names from the wine world, Nicolas Joly, Julia Harding MW, José Vouillamoz, Claude Bourguignon, Permaculture expert Mark Garrett, Channel 4’s Monty Waldin, Palme d’Or nominated filmmaker Jonathan Nossiter and many more. Two debates are planned including one on ingredients labeling and a highlight will be the mini pop-up cinema screening independent films exploring the issues of wine today.

Real Qvevri

8000 years ago, natural wine was already being made using huge clay pots, qvevri’s, buried in the ground where the wine would stay for months or even years. The Georgians still make wine in this way and all sorts of international wine artisans have taken to using this vessel in recent years. RAW will have a real qvevri on display at the event, brought in by kvevri.org and will feature the largest collection of natural Georgian producers to come together outside Georgia. They will be sharing their wines and their ancient art.

RAW is unprocessed. It is about truth, authenticity and frank wine talking, but most of all it's about showcasing good wine.
