Building work starts on region's first Cancer Centre
Building work has started on a new state-of-the-art cancer centre at a Nottingham private hospital.
The Park Cancer Centre, which is being built in the grounds of BMI Park Hospital, is the first of its kind in the region, and will provide patients with fast access to dedicated cancer care and innovative radiation treatments.
The integrated cancer centre marks the beginning of a new partnership between BMI Healthcare and Cancer Partners UK.
As the leading provider of pioneering forms of radiotherapy in the UK, Cancer Partners UK specialises in providing advanced treatments such as IMRT (intensity modulated radiotherapy) and IGRT (image guided radiotherapy). These have been shown to treat cancer tumours with greater accuracy and fewer side effects than conventional radiotherapy.
When The Park Cancer Centre opens its doors this July, patients will have access to this latest generation of radiotherapy treatment as well as a dedicated medical oncology unit which will accommodate the growing number of chemotherapy patients being referred within the private sector.
Cancer treatment has undergone radical change since BMI Park Hospital, in Burntstump Country Park, Nottingham, first launched its oncology unit 20 years ago. During that time the service has evolved with the development of new drugs and modern techniques. The majority of chemotherapy patients are now treated in day care which enables them to undergo their treatment while maintaining as normal a life as possible.
The more spacious chemotherapy unit within The Park Cancer Centre will allow more patients to benefit from convenient day case chemotherapy, while those who need overnight care will still have access to dedicated treatment within the hospital.

“Having everything ‘under one roof’ will provide a smoother and less stressful patient journey, as well as greater continuity of care.”
