The cost of NHS prescription medicine in England, goes up by 25p to £7.65 but there are alternatives for anyone who maintains that prevention is better than cure.

With disposable income falling by 1.2 percent for the average family compared to 2010, more people are finding alternatives to staying healthy. Over the counter medicines, vitamins and supplements can be bought by savvy consumers who want to look after their health and earn cashback on their purchases.

Natasha-Rachel Smith, spokesperson for TopCashBack (topcashback.co.uk) says, "Many consumers are unaware of the range of healthcare products available online and with incentives such as cashback, vouchers and promotions, they can take full advantage of these deals and keep a check on their health for less.

"Consumer healthcare shouldn't just stop at medicines and vitamins. Looking after your eyes should also be a priority. TopCashBack is offering its members a free eye test with Optical Express and £5 cashback. If people look around online, other offers can be found which will help put money back in people's pockets in these tough times."

Natasha concludes, "In the past few years vitamins and health supplements have grown in popularity. As an example, purchases from Holland & Barrett have shown a year-on-year increase of 95%. Other supplement suppliers have seen similar increases, proving that staying healthy and saving money is becoming a major priority."
