The Co-operative Pet Insurance offers 20% online discount

11th April 2012 Print

With lighter evenings here, The Co-operative Pet Insurance is urging pet owners to take care with their animal's health as they increasingly become more active.

In recognition of National Pet Month which began on April 7 and to help ensure pets are kept healthy and happy, The Co-operative Pet Insurance today (11 April) announced that for a limited time all new pet insurance customers will benefit from a 20% discount on their yearly premium. The offer applies to all policies bought online and ends on 31 May.

The Co-operative Pet Insurance offers two types of cover; Classic and Select Plus. The Co-operative continues to offer a more comprehensive policy where each pet's new illness or injury is covered throughout the animal's life, regardless of age or how long the condition lasts - as long as the policy is renewed each year.

As with humans, pets can often develop lifelong medical conditions that require on-going treatment, such as skin conditions and arthritis. The Select Plus policy has been designed by The Co-operative Pet Insurance specifically to give pet owners the peace of mind that should things go wrong, they have a solution in place.

Lee Mooney, Head of Pet Insurance at The Co-operative Insurance, said: "With evenings becoming lighter, pets have more of an opportunity to go outside and exercise which has great advantages to their health.

"However, unfortunately, increased physical activity and time outdoors can lead to animals getting injured and developing seasonal allergies, such as hay fever"

"With a number of major insurers pulling out of the pet insurance market recently, The Co-operative is one of a small number of insurers to continue to offer lifetime policies to customers to give them the peace of mind that should something go wrong, their pet will receive treatment for life, which without insurance could run into thousands of pounds.

"If a pet was to fall ill or become injured the cost to an owner without insurance could run into hundreds, or even thousands of pounds, to get the pets well again which is why we have introduced the 20% discount on policies at a time of year where pets typically become more active."

The Co-operative Pet Insurance's top tips to ensure springtime pet health

1. Ensure pets are wormed and are treated to prevent fleas regularly

2. Make sure food and water are replenished regularly and bowls kept clean

3. Keep pets, especially long haired breeds, well groomed to ensure they are comfortable as the temperatures increase

4. Make sure they are exercised regularly

Details of the Pet Insurance cover available are as follows:

The Classic cover option is designed for pet owners looking for essential cover for their pet and pays out up to £2,000 for any illness or injury sustained for 12 months after the condition is first identified.

The Select Plus option offers a more comprehensive insurance where each new illness or injury is covered throughout the pets life, regardless of age or how long the condition lasts - as long as the policy is renewed each year.

And policyholders have the option to add on optional bundles:

The Additional Benefits bundle covers a range of eventualities such as holiday cancellation and loss, theft or straying of the pet.

The Pet Travel bundle covers emergency vet's fees, emergency repatriation and quarantine expenses.
