Donington Collection to recreate history at GPlive

Donington Collection to recreate history at GPlive The world famous Donington Grand Prix Collection, with over 130 exhibits, the largest collection of Grand Prix racing cars in the world, will play a key role in the GPlive event at Donington Park in May.

In addition to its five halls packed with treasures, a special “Donington Dozen” display in the paddock will feature twelve of the Collection’s most iconic cars. On the track, the museum will also help stage a recreation of one of the most exciting British Grand Prix races ever.

The Collection will help GPlive celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the victory by Stirling Moss in the 1957 British Grand Prix at Aintree. It was the first-ever World Championship race to be won by a British car driven by a British driver, and as the Donington Collection’s reconstruction at GPlive will demonstrate, it was due to a selfless piece of teamwork by Moss’s Vanwall team-mate Tony Brooks, who handed over his car to Moss, after Stirling’s had developed engine trouble.

In a special event at GPlive, both Sir Stirling Moss and Tony Brooks will be reunited with an original Vanwall of the period, thanks to its perfect restoration by Tom Wheatcroft and the Donington Collection.

“For over thirty years, the Donington Collection has enabled enthusiasts to get closer to more Grand Prix cars in one place than anywhere else in the World” said the Collection’s Kevin Wheatcroft. “We’re delighted to support GPlive by bringing some of this history to life on the track. We are looking forward to recreating that magical Aintree moment fifty years on, with Stirling, Tony and our fabulous Vanwall.”

In addition to adding an exciting new dimension to the GPlive event, visitors who have bought a family or weekend pass to GPlive can visit the Donington Collection for free throughout the weekend. A special shuttle bus service will run from the paddock to the museum entrance, allowing the easiest possible access to the greatest collection of racing cars in the world.
