Royal Pearly Kings & Queens

With the British summertime on the horizon what better way to welcome in the sunshine months than with one of the UK’s most iconic foods - Jersey Royals.
However this year there is more to the potato than ever before.
For the first time in the UK, the island’s most traditional grower, The Jersey Royal Company has unveiled plans to make available the highly sought after ‘Jersey Royal Pearl’ potato.
Half the size of the traditional Royal potato (but still the same variety) and packed with an intense nutty flavour, the Pearl has been something of a hidden gem amongst islanders for decades, however this year things are about to change.
The Jersey Royal Company ‘Pearl’ potato will grace retailer shelves nationwide from April, allowing consumers to experience a truly unique and sensational gastro delight.
But be warned, due to the anticipated high demand and the notoriously short Jersey season – the potatoes are only likely to be around for eight to twelve weeks.
The ‘Pearls’ have also attracted attention from a number of high end restaurants – with a number of Michelin starred chefs set to include the delicacy on their seasonal menus.
Ideal in salads or as a main meal, hot or cold, the Jersey Royal Pearls are truly one of the world’s most spectacular seasonal vegetables.
Further to their release – renowned Michelin Starred Jersey Chef, Shaun Rankin has developed a series of exclusive recipes using the potatoes - which are accompanied by stunning photography.
Shaun will also be showcasing the Jersey’s famous potatoes throughout his appearance on the BBC’s Saturday Kitchen in mid April (date TBC).
