Grow your own produce

Growing your own fruit and vegetables can be very rewarding, and not only will it save you money, but it's far healthier than standard store-bought produce too. Certain things are easier to grow than others, but once you master the basics, you can try out other things. 

If you love experimenting with different flavor combinations at mealtimes, then consider growing herbs too. There are loads of varieties to choose from, and growing them is pretty straightforward.

Make do and mend

We have become a bit of a throwaway society these days and would typically prefer to buy something new than mend what we already have. So, the next time your jeans have a rip in them, or you discover a hole in your favorite blouse, fix them rather than throwing them away. 

A serger sewing machine will give professional, long-lasting results when it comes to fixing seams or hemming clothes or if it is a simple fix, you can’t go wrong with a needle and thread. 

Take coffee to work

If you usually buy a hot beverage each morning on your way to work, have you considered how much it costs you over a year? You might be shocked and surprised at the results, so instead, why not buy a refillable thermal cup and take a hot drink with you from home. It's far cheaper than buying from a local café, and you will save yourself a bit of time each morning too.

Walk instead of driving

Fuel prices are astronomical at the moment, so it makes sense now more than ever to ditch the car and walk whenever you can. As well as saving money on gas, it's also far better for the environment, and the fresh air and exercise will benefit you too! 

Eat more plant-based food

More and more people are switching to plant-based eating for the health benefits, but given how expensive fresh meat can be, the financial benefits are also a great incentive. Vegetables, legumes, fruit, and whole grains are all the ingredients you need to make an array of delicious, cost-effective nutritious food that the entire family will enjoy. 

If you want to reduce your grocery spending further, batch cooking is another option. Many dishes will stay fresh in the fridge for a few days and be fine for months in the freezer, so making meals in bulk is a great way to keep leftovers to a minimum and save a bit of cash at the same time.
